If you have lived here long enough, you carry a mental map of where you eat. Downtown around Biesterfield. The strip near Higgins. Maybe Woodfield if you are willing to cross into Schaumburg. The business park sits on that map as a place you drive through on the way somewhere else, six square miles of warehouses and office parks that empty out by 5:30.
That map is out of date. The most interesting restaurant openings in Elk Grove Village over the past twelve months have all landed inside the business park, on Busse Road between Landmeier and Greenleaf, and the timing lines up with a specific August weekend calendar at Busse Woods that residents can actually plan around.
The Busse Road cluster
Start with what has opened. Moqa Cafe is now open at 1551 Busse Rd. at Greenleaf Avenue. The 40-seat restaurant opens daily at 9 a.m. and is open until 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, midnight Friday and Saturday, and 10 p.m. Sunday. Although Moqa Cafe serves pasta, salads, bowls, sandwiches, and even steak and fish, restaurant manager Sam Kenzhe said the cafe specializes in both coffee and Neapolitan pizza, baked quickly in an 800-degree, wood-fired oven. A block of Busse south of there, Meson Del Taco Jr. at 934 Busse Rd. at Landmeier Road held a soft opening in July. Elk Grove Village Business Development and Marketing Director Sue Dees said this is the second location for Meson Del Taco.
Two more are landing on the same corridor. Sāttvic Thali, an Indian vegetarian restaurant, is expecting to hold a ribbon-cutting, with Shweta Bharwad described as the lady behind Sattvic. Another new restaurant, Barakat, is expected to open soon. Located in a former restaurant space at Lively Boulevard and Landmeier Road, signage for the restaurant describes it as an Eastern European bakery and cafe. Just off the corridor at Rohlwing, Pies of London, serving a variety of meat pies, expected to open at 1031 Rohlwing Rd. is expected to open in late spring or early summer.
Here is why the geography matters. Mayor Craig Johnson said 65,000 people work in Elk Grove Village, in a business park measuring about six square miles, and that many workers need places to eat. That is the daytime population these operators are chasing, and it is roughly the same population as the resident village itself. A restaurant that gets a full lunch service Monday through Friday from a captive workforce can afford to be interesting on a Saturday night in a way that a strip-mall lease on a five-day retail cycle cannot.

None of these are on the downtown retail strip. All of them are within about a ten-minute drive of the southern trailhead of Busse Woods.
What Busse Woods is doing this month
The forest preserve is the other half of the map. The 3,558-acre Ned Brown Preserve, popularly known as Busse Woods, is one of the largest and most diverse locations in the Forest Preserves. The site includes ancient upland forests, one of the largest fishing and boating waters in Cook County, nearly 13 miles of paved trail, an elk pasture and much more, making it one of the best-used natural areas in Illinois. Residents already know the loop. What is worth knowing is that two specific dates in August pull it out of its usual weekend rhythm.
- Saturday, August 15 — The Next Loop Endurance Series. Busse Woods Forest Preserve becomes home to three unique endurance experiences. Whether you prefer the flexibility of hourly loops or the focused challenge of a continuous ultra, every event takes place on the same scenic 3.1-mile trail loop winding through mature woodlands, peaceful forest preserve scenery, and smooth, runnable trails designed for runners of every experience level. The race takes place on a clearly marked 3.1-mile loop through the scenic trails of Busse Woods Forest Preserve. The course delivers a beautiful trail-running experience that feels surprisingly secluded despite being just minutes from O'Hare International Airport. The trail surface is primarily packed dirt with sections of crushed gravel and smooth natural trail. Gentle rolling terrain, flowing turns, and well-maintained paths create a fast, approachable course.
- Saturday, August 29 — Busse Woods Night Ride. The 6:30 p.m. start staging out of the Busse Reservoir Main Pool boating center, run by Chicago River Canoe and Kayak. If you have never been on the water at Busse after sundown, this is the once-a-year evening it is set up for.
Two other reference points for planners. The preserve has a large meandrous lake in its center, and is home to a small herd of captive resident elk. On 11.6 miles of paved trails, cyclists, cross-country skiers, and pedestrians alike can enjoy the natural beauty of the preserve's waters, forests and meadows. The elk pasture sits at the Higgins and Arlington Heights Road corner, and it is the reliable rainy-day stop if a full loop is off the table.
A Saturday that actually uses both
Take August 15 as the working example. The endurance runners are on the 3.1-mile inner loop starting at 7 a.m., which means the paved bike loop is unusually clear at that hour on a race Saturday. A resident who wants a normal ride can do the 7.4-mile outer loop before the crowds arrive, and be off the trail by 9 a.m. Moqa Cafe opens at 9. That is a coincidence of clock and calendar, but it is the kind of coincidence that turns a routine morning into something the reader might not have connected on their own.
The August 29 evening is a different shape. Night ride staging begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Boating Center on the main pool. Anything on Busse Road with a late kitchen catches the downstream traffic. Moqa's Friday and Saturday close is midnight. Yard House hours and downtown Elk Grove Blvd. tenants close earlier. That is a real difference on a weekend that runs late.
The BReW-style thinking that has driven so many suburban commercial districts assumes restaurants follow retail. In Elk Grove Village they are following the daytime workforce instead, and the residential side is picking up the surplus in the evenings.
That is the pattern under the openings. It is not that the business park has "arrived." It is that the economics of the six-square-mile industrial base finally justify operators who want dinner service too, and the physical proximity to Busse Woods means residents inherit a dining cluster they did not have to lobby for.
What the pattern says about the year ahead
Two things are worth watching if you live here.
First, the Busse Road corridor is now dense enough that the next opening will be evaluated against Moqa and Meson Del Taco rather than against the downtown strip. That is a competitive floor most suburban business parks never reach. A Neapolitan oven and a full-service taqueria within a mile of each other means the next operator has to be interesting, not just convenient.
Second, the calendar has quietly gotten deeper. August used to be the shoulder month between Rotary Fest in mid-July and the fall school calendar. This year it carries an endurance race, a night ride, the Cook County farmers' rhythm, and a set of restaurants that did not exist eighteen months ago. A resident who assumes August is a slow month is planning on outdated information.
The through-line for both is the same. The village's non-residential base, 65,000 workers on 3,558 acres of preserve, is finally being priced into the weekend experience of the people who actually live here. That is the update to the mental map.
